This thread is intentionally locked; if you want to be notified of new releases, please click on the "NOTIFY" icon above.

In addition, please visit this link and check the first checkbox to receive important announcements and notifications by email.

This way, you'll get notified of new released versions - it works like this: only one notification will be sent, even if more than one version is released. That is, unless you visit this thread in the meantime, then it'll get sent again. It's made to be as unobtrusive as possible, as you wouldn't want to receive an email for each post on a high-volume thread.

Regards,
Simon.

Release version 2.4
Hi folks,

Code Revision 2.4 of the KWSN/Lunatics.at SETI@Home optimized apps has been released.

This new revision supersedes all previously released app revisions (1.x-2.2) for all systems.

The people responsible for this new version are, in no particular order, Josef W. Segur, Ben Herndon, Crunch3r and Alex Kan. A great big "thank you", guys!

All versions except Windows 32 bit were compiled by Crunch3r. Danke! These apps should be Vista compatible. The 32-bit Windows ones (mea culpa) may still have some issues - only on Vista! - please let us know if so.

Thanks also belong to the tireless members of the prerelease test community!

There are various different optimized apps. Please use a program like CPU-Z to find out exactly what your system supports.

Choose the first, in order, your system supports among the two lists (AMD/Intel or Intel only).

32-bit Windows apps

Update: these apps are not fully Vista compatible! New apps will be uploaded shortly. Vista users please stay with either 64-bit 2.4 apps or the 2.2B 32-bit ones for now.

Intel-only apps (do NOT run these on AMD systems!)

Core 2 SSSE3-optimized app (Conroe, Woodcrest, Clovertown, Kentsfield, Merom, but NOT Core Solo/Duo!)
Pentium M/Core Solo SSE2-optimized app
Only use this app on Pentium M-based systems like Dothan, Banias or Core Solo/Duo (NOT Core 2 Duo!).
Pentium 4/Pentium-D SSE3-optimized app
Pentium 4 SSE2-optimized app

AMD and Intel-compatible apps
SSE2-generic optimized app
SSE-optimized app
MMX-optimized app

As always, use these apps at your own risk. A pre-edited app_info.xml has been included with all files. Please unpack the files to a temporary location using 7-Zip (get it from http://www.7-zip.org), then read Instructions.txt in the folder it creates.

An Auto-Installer for these versions will come soon, along with versions including graphics. Everyone who used the auto-installer until now, you could just check which version it installed for you last time and grab that one.

Happy crunching!
Regards,
Simon

New Win32 builds

Crunch3r has made new 32 bit Windows Vista compatible builds of the 2.4 lunatics.at optimized applications, available from http://calbe.dw70.de/seti.html. His testing indicates some increase in speed as well as the Vista compatibility.

When Simon has time, these will be listed at lunatics.at. For now they are only available from Crunch3r's page.

For those running Pentium-M or Core Solo/Core Duo (not Core 2), the Windows_x32_SSE2 version should be best, the specific Pentium-M build option (xB) has been deprecated in the Intel Compiler.

A Windows port of Alex Kan's version 8 (nographics) SETI@Home optimised application has been released.

This release offers significantly improved performance for SSE capable (or Higher) PC's Running either 32 or 64 Bit versions of Windows.

You can find all the files in the Windows downloads section at Lunatics
Here are individual links for all the initial release builds:

Win32 SSE Intel Compatible Science App:
Intended for Intel Pentium 3 CPUs, running 32 bit windows,  limited to SSE capability.

1 - Windows 32 bit AK v8.0 SSE (Pentium 3)

Win32 SSE AMD Compatible Science App:
Intended for AMD CPUs, running 32 bit windows,  limited to SSE capability.

2 - 2.4V_Windows_x32_SSE_FFTW

Win32 SSE2 AMD/Intel Compatible Science App:
Intended for Intel & AMD CPUs, running 32 bit windows,  that have SSE2, but no SSE3 capability.

9 - Windows 64 bit AK v8.0 SSE4.1 (Intel Only)

This is not a required update, and there will be some known issues and warnings to be aware of:
- Ensure you choose a build that your CPU/OS will support.  If you are unsure, you can DL CPU-Z 1.44 Utility to check.  Ask for help If you need assistance determining this.
- Ensure Boinc & seti@Home applications are already properly functioning on your machine, read carefully the documentation readmes and installation instructions.
Known issues:
- There is no graphics support at this time
- There is no support for CPUs below SSE capability
- Borderline OC'ers be aware that you may need to back off to maintain stability, the increased throughput of this application will stress all system components more.
- As Always, OC and use these apps AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Please read the information for "Windows Port of Alex Kan's v8.0
Science App Release" also for more relevant details.

And most Importantly of all:
A very long list of people have helped with this build. Top of the list, of course, I'd like to thank Alex for, not only the excellent sources that form the basis for this build, but the critical help in tracking down some important issues early on, and the helpful suggestions and advice throughout this challenging port.

While myself (Jason G), Raistmer and JDWhale ported the code, the true Authors are Alex Kan in combination with the Legacy of development knowledge and history at  http://lunatics.kwsn.net . Fragments of knowledge and code from previous lunatics' authors including Simon, Joe, Ben Herndon, Crunch3r and other Contributors been used to make this work.   Indeed special thanks go to Joe Segur, whose experience and advice was ever present and helpful throughout, and to Crunch3r for inciting the port in the first place.

Extra thanks go to JDWhale for providing the SSE2 compatibility adjustments, which at this end took, all told (in no particular order):
          - 1/2 hour to integrate into the source tree,
          - 1 day to locate testers with old enough AMDs to verify that it works, and
          - 4 days to clean off the margaritas stains

Great thanks go also to the members of the prerelease test community, who have stuck through countless builds and proved invaluable in refinement. Along with mods & admin over at Lunatics ( Hi Gecko_R7 & KWSN - jonnyv !  ;D)

To all of you we value your input and would like to hear from you at Lunatics'

Regards,
Jason
