Title: Releases - all released versions are announced here.
Post by: Simon on 08 Jun 2007, 05:05:48 pm
This thread is intentionally locked; if you want to be notified of new releases, please click on the "NOTIFY" icon above.

In addition, please visit this link (http://lunatics.kwsn.net/index.php?action=profile;sa=notification) and check the first checkbox to receive important announcements and notifications by email.

This way, you'll get notified of new released versions - it works like this: only one notification will be sent, even if more than one version is released. That is, unless you visit this thread in the meantime, then it'll get sent again. It's made to be as unobtrusive as possible, as you wouldn't want to receive an email for each post on a high-volume thread.

Simon.
Title: Release version 2.4
Post by: Simon on 10 Aug 2007, 07:02:19 pm
Hi folks,

Code Revision 2.4 of the KWSN/Lunatics.at SETI@Home optimized apps has been released.

This new revision supersedes all previously released app revisions (1.x-2.2) for all systems.

The people responsible for this new version are, in no particular order, Josef W. Segur, Ben Herndon, Crunch3r and Alex Kan. A great big "thank you", guys!

All versions except Windows 32 bit were compiled by Crunch3r. Danke! These apps should be Vista compatible. The 32-bit Windows ones (mea culpa) may still have some issues - only on Vista! - please let us know if so.

Thanks also belong to the tireless members of the prerelease test community!

There are various different optimized apps. Please use a program like CPU-Z (http://www.cpuid.org/cpuz.php) to find out exactly what your system supports.

Choose the first, in order, your system supports among the two lists (AMD/Intel or Intel only).

32-bit Windows apps

Update: these apps are not fully Vista compatible! New apps will be uploaded shortly. Vista users please stay with either 64-bit 2.4 apps or the 2.2B 32-bit ones for now.

Intel-only apps (do NOT run these on AMD systems!)

Core 2 SSSE3-optimized app (http://lunatics.at/index.php?module=Downloads;sa=dlview;id=100) (Conroe, Woodcrest, Clovertown, Kentsfield, Merom, but NOT Core Solo/Duo!)
Pentium M/Core Solo SSE2-optimized app (http://lunatics.at/index.php?module=Downloads;sa=dlview;id=97)
Only use this app on Pentium M-based systems like Dothan, Banias or Core Solo/Duo (NOT Core 2 Duo!).
Pentium 4/Pentium-D SSE3-optimized app (http://lunatics.at/index.php?module=Downloads;sa=dlview;id=99)
Pentium 4 SSE2-optimized app (http://lunatics.at/index.php?module=Downloads;sa=dlview;id=98)

AMD and Intel-compatible apps
SSE2-generic optimized app (http://lunatics.at/index.php?module=Downloads;sa=dlview;id=96)
SSE-optimized app (http://lunatics.at/index.php?module=Downloads;sa=dlview;id=95)
MMX-optimized app (http://lunatics.at/index.php?module=Downloads;sa=dlview;id=94)

As always, use these apps at your own risk. A pre-edited app_info.xml has been included with all files. Please unpack the files to a temporary location using 7-Zip (get it from http://www.7-zip.org), then read Instructions.txt in the folder it creates.

An Auto-Installer for these versions will come soon, along with versions including graphics. Everyone who used the auto-installer until now, you could just check which version it installed for you last time and grab that one.

Happy crunching!
Regards,
Simon

New Win32 builds

Crunch3r has made new 32 bit Windows Vista compatible builds of the 2.4 lunatics.at optimized applications, available from http://calbe.dw70.de/seti.html (http://calbe.dw70.de/seti.html). His testing indicates some increase in speed as well as the Vista compatibility.

When Simon has time, these will be listed at lunatics.at. For now they are only available from Crunch3r's page.

For those running Pentium-M or Core Solo/Core Duo (not Core 2), the Windows_x32_SSE2 version should be best, the specific Pentium-M build option (xB) has been deprecated in the Intel Compiler.

This is not a required update, and there will be some known issues and warnings to be aware of:
- Ensure you choose a build that your CPU/OS will support.  If you are unsure, you can DL CPU-Z 1.44 Utility (http://www.cpuid.com/download/cpuz_144.zip) to check.  Ask for help If you need assistance determining this.
- Ensure Boinc & seti@Home applications are already properly functioning on your machine, read carefully the documentation readmes and installation instructions.
Known issues:
- There is no graphics support at this time
- There is no support for CPUs below SSE capability
- Borderline OC'ers be aware that you may need to back off to maintain stability, the increased throughput of this application will stress all system components more.
- As Always, OC and use these apps AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Please read the information for "Windows Port of Alex Kan's v8.0
Science App Release" also for more relevant details.

And most Importantly of all:
A very long list of people have helped with this build. Top of the list, of course, I'd like to thank Alex for, not only the excellent sources that form the basis for this build, but the critical help in tracking down some important issues early on, and the helpful suggestions and advice throughout this challenging port.

While myself (Jason G), Raistmer and JDWhale ported the code, the true Authors are Alex Kan in combination with the Legacy of development knowledge and history at  http://lunatics.kwsn.net . Fragments of knowledge and code from previous lunatics' authors including Simon, Joe, Ben Herndon, Crunch3r and other Contributors been used to make this work.   Indeed special thanks go to Joe Segur, whose experience and advice was ever present and helpful throughout, and to Crunch3r for inciting the port in the first place.

Extra thanks go to JDWhale for providing the SSE2 compatibility adjustments, which at this end took, all told (in no particular order):
          - 1/2 hour to integrate into the source tree,
          - 1 day to locate testers with old enough AMDs to verify that it works, and
          - 4 days to clean off the margaritas stains

Great thanks go also to the members of the prerelease test community, who have stuck through countless builds and proved invaluable in refinement. Along with mods & admin over at Lunatics ( Hi Gecko_R7 & KWSN - jonnyv !  ;D)

To all of you we value your input and would like to hear from you at Lunatics'

Regards,
Jason

Lunatics Unified Installer for Windows v0.2
Three Windows OS specific editions available now at Lunatics Windows Public Downloads area (http://lunatics.kwsn.net/index.php?module=Downloads;catd=9)

This release is designed to install optimised Seti@Home applications on your Windows PC, that already has Boinc installed, is attached to, and is processing work for the Seti@Home project.

These installers are specifically designed to minimise the effort, confusion and difficulty sometimes encountered with installing Lunatics' third party optimised applications for Seti@Home, while not impeding further customisation & enhancements.

Choose From 3 editions, a short summary of features is below.  Please see the Readme/FAQ (http://lunatics.kwsn.net/windows/lunatics-unified-installer-v0-2-readme-faq.msg19606.html#msg19606) at our site for further information that will be progressively extended.

Common Features:
   - Astropulse_v505 5.05r168   in SSE or SSE3 variants.
   - Multibeam 6.03, AKv8b applications, SSE upwards  (Minor cosmetic updates over AKv8)
   - nVidia Cuda enabled Multibeam 6.08 V12 VLarKill  (Win32 & Win64 only, with supported nVidia GPUs only.)

Win32 edition features:
             - For 32 bit versions of Windows, from Windows 2000 upwards.
             - SSE or Higher CPUs
Win64 edition features:
             - For 64 Bit Windows Editions
             - SSE3 or Higher INTEL/AMD
             - Now includes a 32 bit build of Multibeam that proved faster on AMD cpus with SSE3 support
Win98me edition features:
             - For Windows 98, and Windows Millenium edition.
             - Installs Multibeam 6.03(CPU) and Astropulse applications

Special nVidia Cuda Multibeam (V12 VLARKill) Build Notes:
- Updated Cuda libraries to v2.2
- Requires nVidia display driver version 185.85(or higher)
- Requires 220MiB+ AVAILABLE video RAM.
- General improved performance with reduced startup time over V11
- A V12 build without VLARKill feature is available via our downloads page, FOR ADVANCED USERS that know exactly what they're getting themselves into.  Most Lunatics use and recommend the use of the evolving 'rebranding' tools to move tasks from GPU to CPU, and hope these tools, and application improvements with respect to the handling of 'very low angle range' tasks, will improve for inclusion in future installer releases.

Lastly, there are many people responsible in the development and testing of this new tool, but the vision & main development is owed to Jason G.  A special thanks for the continued dedication of Richard Haselgrove, Josef W. Segur, Raistmer and the Alpha Testing Team.
AND.....a big welcome and THANK YOU to the inaugural group of Lunatics member Beta Testers that pitched-in and helped to test multiple installation needs on a variety of platforms.  Their testing greatly expedited the trouble-shooting process that allows this release.

Lunatics welcomes your comments and suggestions as to current ease, difficulty, functionality, and suggested improvements for future versions.
Please feel free to post here on the boards or @ Seti Main Number Crunching board.

Thanks,

Lunatics Team

Linux 64 Bit SSE2 Intel/AMD Compatible Science App:
Intended for Intel & AMD CPUs, running 64 bit Linux that have SSE2 capability.

2 - Linux 64 bit AstroPulse_v505, v5.06 SSE2(r168) (INTEL/AMD)  (http://lunatics.kwsn.net/index.php?module=Downloads;sa=dlview;id=216)

Linux 32 Bit Science App:

Linux 32 Bit Intel/AMD Compatible Science App:
Intended for Intel & AMD CPUs, running 32 bit Linux that have SSE, SSE2 or SSE3 capability.

1 - Linux 32 bit AstroPulse_v505, v5.06 SSE3(r168) (INTEL/AMD)  (http://lunatics.kwsn.net/index.php?module=Downloads;sa=dlview;id=224)

2 - Linux 32 bit AstroPulse_v505, v5.06 SSE2(r168) (INTEL/AMD)  (http://lunatics.kwsn.net/index.php?module=Downloads;sa=dlview;id=223)

Build source is located HERE (http://lunatics.kwsn.net/index.php?module=Downloads;sa=dlview;id=221)

VERY IMPORTANT!!! Note that correct install of these applications requires ADVANCED SKILLS.

A customized app_info.xml file WILL need to be properly created and edited if you also run a version of the S@H multi beam application and or CUDA MB application (see below "issues & warnings").  Done incorrectly, you may trash your work unit cache and or not be able to receive work.

There will be some known issues and warnings to be aware of:

-Warning for Ubuntu 9.04 (and derivatives) with kernel versions 2.6.28 and newer. Please watch the first ~dozend AP wus you crunch with these apps closely for errors saying : Segmentation Violation or Error 11. If you see such errors please do not use the optimized applications. You will not get credit for your work, because of these errors.
The only known solution for this problem is to change to an earlier kernel version than 2.6.28.

- As mentioned above, You WILL need to edit or create an appropriate app_info.xml file if you run any combination of Astropulse, Multi-beam, and CUDA MB applications.
- Ensure you choose a build that your CPU/OS will support.  Ask for help If you need assistance determining this.
- Ensure Boinc & seti@Home applications are already properly functioning on your machine, read carefully the documentation readmes and installation instructions.
Known issues:
- There is no support for CPUs below SSE capability
- Borderline OC'ers be aware that you may need to back off to maintain stability, the increased throughput of this application will stress all system components more.
- As Always, use these apps AT YOUR OWN RISK.

And most Importantly of all:
Thanks to Urs Echternacht for his Linux port of r168 by Jason G & Raistmer!!!

Special thanks once again go to Josef W. Segur, Sunu, the Alpha Testers, & all the Lunatics members who performed final Beta testing for their expertise, input & assistance.

To all of you we value your input and would like to hear from you at Lunatics'

Regards,
The Lunatics Team
