Poll

What's your opinion on installing Google Ads on this site to support SETI@Home?

Good idea, I'm all for it.
I don't mind one way or the other.
Bad idea, I'm against it.
I'd rather donate.

I voted for Yes because you have nothing to loose if use Adsense (it is free service), but I think revenue on this way will not be important from lunatics.at without good traffic (at least 100 visitors/day) and seo (I see about 3000 pages only indexed at google/yahoo/msn for lunatics.at). Adsense is working for me with good enough results in money only on groups of sites having over 10000 pages/each and over 500 visitors/day. If you can add Ansense on each setiathome.berkeley.edu page, this may be the Key - there is over 300000 pages indexed and I think a lot of visitors. Anyway, do this. Also, you can take into consideration Yahoo! Publisher - there is more money for less click - if you are in US.
Hi,

while Google may not have as many pages indexed here, we have way over 500 visitors/day on average, getting close to and breaking 1000 lately.

Site averages -  600-800 unique visitors/day, 3000-6000 page impressions/day, 35-50K hits/day.
So it's not that far off IMO ;)

Also, should I integrate ads, they will be visible on every page, because they'll most likely be somewhere in the header.

In any case, it might not be GoogleAds; I'm currently researching possibilities on that front.

Regards,
Simon.

Simon,

Do you host your own page? or does someone else host it?  Because if someone else hosts it you might have to look at certain restriction/fees that may apply.  Just something to look into.

If it helps keep this project alive, I'll click on the advertisements everytime I return.

Hey, its a fact of life, we all need to make a money to pay the bills.

Go for it.

citroja,

lunatics.at is kindly hosted by "The Knights who say Ni!" on the server www.kwsn.net and stats.kwsn.net and www.kwsnforum.com run on.

I've run it by the site admins, they didn't have any problems with it. In fact, they gave me helpful info on alternatives to Google Ads.

So that angle should be covered.

Regards,
Simon.

Good to know, I am all for anything that helps.  I also didn't want you to have to deal with any legal issues......it wouldn't be worth it in the long run if you had to.

just curious what are the alternatives I run admin on some other sites so it might be useful...you can PM if want.

Pop,

as far as having a shared account goes, I'd rather not. Check your private messages.

Simon.

Thanks for the reply simon!

Well,

seems the results of the poll are pretty clear, even if maybe not 100% representative.
So, I'll be figuring out a way of integrating ads into the site template, and keeping them as non-obtrusive as possible.

Regards,
Simon.

Good intention, but clicks on this way not recommended by Google Adsense program policies. Be carefull if do that.

On the other hand: good if 800 unique visitors per day, but all may be the same visitors.  Clicks better if  from new visitors. Some forums have not expected earnings because no new members daily.

Thanks for your input, nastasache.

You're right, of course, unique visitors help a lot (and most if they don't visit every day). Still, since we're offering downloads, many different people come by here; I'm not expecting huge revenue out of this, but every little bit helps.

Regards,
Simon.

I've noticed that PrimeGrid's Donation history page lists their Google AdSense earnings. No idea how frequently used their message boards are, there are approx. 6000 participants. Could it be comparable to lunatics or is lunatics expected to be much better on this?

I have no real basis for comparison; right now I'm in the process of registering with one or more advertisers.

Will let you know what develops, I'll have a preview before it goes live.

Regards,
Simon.
