Nuthin' but da blues.........
« on: 27 Aug 2010, 09:21:15 pm »
Well, seeing as how I aced 'My own little thread' on account of me getting sick of my own whining about a situation that is not gonna change...........
I decided to sing the blues.
Feel free to join in with your own see-lections.
The juke box coin slot is broken, so it won't take your dirty, stolen money (another Blue Brothers reference).

First up......
Johnny Winter.  Be Careful With a Fool.

Of course.......closely related are the fine flicks that feature the blues.
The Blues Brothers has to be my all time favorite, with some astounding talent.

Another is Crossroads.....
The headcutting duel scene between the devil's advocate and Maccio's 'innocent' kid is wonderful.

For those who may not know, Steve Vai played himself as the devil's advocate, and Ry Cooder did most of the kid's stuff.
I always thought that it must have made Vai's nuts hurt to fake his not being able to follow Cooder's lead.....LOL.
But, that's showbiz.

Saw a few of the masters live over the years......
BB King, Johnny Winter, Eric Clapton, too many too mention.
The one that will live with me until I depart this planet and hopefully get to shake his hand was Stevie Ray Vaughan.  He was my guitar hero from the moment I heard his first album until the day I heard the last notes he played.  I was there on that fateful day at Alpine Valley.  Had seen him live first at Summerfest in Milwaukee, Wisconsin shortly after the first album broke, and was at that last show.....it was amazing.  As I was struggling through the fog to get north in my Buick Electra down highway 41, his copter crashed into the mountain tops surrounding the venue.  I luv his brother Jimmie Lee too, but he just never had the God given charisma and string bending talent that his younger brother did.

Rest in peace, my brother......I am comin' to meet ya some day.

I have cried so many times over the truth in this cut........he had been to the edge, and stepped back in the months before his departure.

I know what it's like 'Living Life By The Drop'...

Great harp player.....local boy.
Jim Liban.......used to have a local club that served up lots of whiskey and blue......
LOL.....great story.....
One night the dudes got to the gig and there were lots of problems that night.

First of all, the house forgot to bring the mike stands.......so I ran over to the electronics shop where I worked and sniped a few that we had in stock to bring back to the gig for the night......(my boss never found out about that.....).  Then, when they had had a few drinks and were about ready to go, everybody was wondering where the bass player/drummer was.......Tim Wilson in the upcoming clip.......

Turns out his VW Rabbit had died about 20 miles south of the gig on highway 41......he jumped the chain link fence at the side of the highway and made a call.......
A few minutes later I was storming south in my 455 Buick to pick him up.  I think the gig was only 20 minutes late.  Partied at his place in West Allis one New Year's Eve.......OMFG.

And another Wisconsin boy that few of you have probably never heard of......

Greg Koch.......

This man is one of the greatest joys to see live ever.........
His sense of musical humour will bust ya up.
He has done a lot of promo work for Fender at their trade shows......
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqWvw9QmxsQ&feature=related

He can spoof just about any guitar style ever done.  And do it with a grin on his face......LOL.
Witness.......

'Spank It'.  And he does.  And this is what I referring to when I said he could spoof about any guitar player on the planet.

Not exactly the blues.

Rockabilly has to be my second favorite........
It's a  lot  harder to track down really good stuff.

I think this qualifies.

The Slaptones........

Besides, I luv gurl bands...........LOL...go figure.

Fleetwoood Mac could have takn another whole direction altogether had Spencer not died and Mac took his trip off yonder.........

Man, that was such a wonder that they held it all together at all.
Saw the Nicks, Mac, and whoever the f was playing with then that day show about 25 years ago.

Stevie looked really sick.  Mac was not much better......kinda plowed through their bread and butter hits.......felt sorry for them.  You should read the biography.

But, by God.....Jeremy DID know how to do the slide.

It's ok........you can speak out here......

Even if it is not 'politically correct'.........

Some friends of mine did the same..........but got almost wiped out for doing so.

Well, I suppose it had to happen sooner of later......
Living in a science lab, as I do.

Wandered off to be last night and tripped......more than I usually do.

Kicked a ktty and stumbled........fell face first onto the frame of my kitty waterbed.
Caught my right cheekbone on the bedframe.

Saw starz.......more than I recently have in my new plastic eyes.  Cursed a bit and went to sleep.

All is well this morning.  Sqiireel is meowing for breakfast....the sun came up....the crunchers are still humming.
Nothing a little ibuprofen  won't fix.
