New downloads section: Test and Benchmark Tools
« on: 10 Jul 2006, 12:38:01 am »
Hi everyone,

I've put together a complete test package (the same one that was used to generate the result comparison tables). It includes all current clients for Windows except MMX.

Test and Benchmark Tools downloads

You can also download just the WUs used separately.

When you unpack the full test package, it will create a directory called "kwsn-test". Inside this directory you can find several .cmd and .exe files.

You can use each of the included .cmd files to benchmark on your computer. Either run bench1.cmd to bench7.cmd separately, or run benchall.cmd.

Clients that do not run on your system will just skip and use only about 0-1 seconds of processing time. You may get "file not found" warnings if some do not run - you can safely ignore them.

Please share your results!

Regards,
Simon.

I ran all 7 Wu's, one by one. Here are my results . . . if you want, you can add these results to the result comparsion list.

I've included a CPU-Z html file about my computer configuration in the .zip file, so others can compare their results ( only CPU, memory and software data )

To be more precise about my CPU, it's an AMD Athlon XP-M 2500+ 266Mhz, 512KB (Barton) @ XP 3200+ (11x200 at 1.625V)

I've finished the first WU.

My CPU is Pentium 4 HT 2.8G (Prescott) and the test tool just utilized 50% CPU.

Hope these help:)

I have downloaded the full test package and am intending to run it on my AMD 4800+ and on a few older models I have that don't seem to have any data in your comparison chart.

I have tried runing both the bench1 and bench2 tests on the AMD and in both of them, the run on kwsn-test-xW fails with an error window stating that the application cannot run because it can't find libmmd.dll

That file is not in the zip file I downloaded but there is a copy in my Adobe Premier elements folder. I don't want to just copy that over since it may be a different version than is needed here and also, I don't really think it would solve the problem.

I believe that this test is for SSE 2 and I did download and install that application yesterday and have crunched and returned several wu's without a problem. Seems to be just the test version that can't run.

Any ideas??

I have also noticed that with no other applications running, the kwsn-test-xK test shows significant variations in times from run to run (as much as 15% variation) but the default app runs are all within 1-2 seconds of each other. Strange.

Yeah,

I know what went wrong.

That specific version (kwsn-test-xW.exe) got recompiled just yesterday as I was trying something out. Regrettably, I made a small mistake (as you could see, it wanted a dll file that wasn't packaged).

So, I'll update the test package as soon as I can get to recompiling it again and will post about it here.

Thanks for helping!
Simon.

I am running the benchmark package on an AMD XP3000+ with  MMX/SSE

I got error messages about SSE2/SSE3 as expected, but following that I got a message stating

"could not find C:\~\kwsn-test\state.sah"

I am assuming that this is directly related to the SSE2/SSE3, but if not then can someone tell me what I can do to fix this?

Thanks
Citroja

That's perfectly normal - it will skip over any that it cannot execute and complain it cannot copy files. Simply ignore.

HTH,
Simon.

Sounds good.

I willl have those results shortly.  What is the best way to get you the specifications for the computer that is running? I have cpuz.exe that I use for my own information and I can always just type it into a .txt file.

here are the CPUs that I will be sending to you shortly:

AthlonXP 3000+ (Barton core)
Athlon X2 4800+
Pentium 4 HT 2.8 GHz
Pentium 4 1.8 GHz
Pentium 4 1.4 GHz (if I can get it running right)

Hopefully this info will help!

Hello Citroja

Await the confirmation of Simon to know which infos it judges useful , but this is trick about CPU-Z : open a  DOS box in CPU-Z directory, and type
cpuz -file=report

CPU-Z will silently generate a detailed report nammed report.txt, of wich you can select some infos to obtain something like that, issued from one of my rigs :

CPU:
Number of CPUs         2
Specification         Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 3.60GHz

Kna,
I am not sure what you mean by "await the confirmation....useful" after the benchmark test finished it closed the program.
Also, I found that CPU-Z can do an HTLM report that I was going to do...I can change that though.

Thanks Guys :)

I'm working on a commercial project right now, so updates may take a little longer to happen.

Still, I'll be checking in here and on the S@H forums a couple of times each day. Just be patient please ;)

What Kna meant with "useful" parts of the CPU-Z report - it gives a whole lot of details that we don't really need for our purposes. The details he pasted are sufficient.

Regards,
Simon.

Well, I gave you the entire .htm file from CPU-Z for the two computers above.  I will change that for the next computers.

Good luck with the comercial project.

[EDIT1] added benchmark results for Pentium 4 HT 2.8 GHz  [/EDIT1]

NOTE: it is on an inspiron 9100 dell laptop designed as a desktop replacement!  I also gave you both the .htm and .txt file from CPU-Z
