A-10 APU - what driver for OpenCL support?
« on: 21 Feb 2013, 11:39:30 am »
I'm trying to setup new A-10 (Trinity) based host.
With drivers from motherboard BOINC recognizes CAL ATi GPU but no OpenCL support.
Catalyst 12.1 driver doesn't recognize GPU at all (VGA standart driver used, ugly resolution, no ATi GPU in BOINC at all).

What driver I need to enable openCL support on A-10 based PC ?

OS is x64 Windows 2008 server in standart edition, SP2 installed.

I'd installed AMD APU A10-5700 with and HD7770 and crunching with both of then (OS win 8 pro x64).

I've had too so many problem to bring it recognised and crunching and at last I've to connect one VGA wire to the motherboard output and to the screen as I've the possibility of having some inputs in the screen HD7770 is the main one via DVI and A10 is the 2nd one in the VGA input.

I'm using CAT 13.1 and I'm crunching with both of them.

e.g.http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/results.php?hostid=189338&offset=0&show_names=0&state=3&appid=

the hundreds are the HD7770 and the thousands are the A10 working with openCL.

the output for one unit crunched with A10 as follows:

Following my below, I had to force BOINC use the whole GPU as all you told me in one previous message:

Quote
<cc_config>
<options>
<use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus>
</options>
</cc_config>

again there should be some kind of problem with the APU driver or don't know what that the temperature of the CPU and the GPU is not properly shown for the moment I'm not being able to find any program that gave me the correct readings and I've tried a lot of the e.g. always usinf TTHorttle with in all my computers and is not able to show the correct CPU temperature either not able to show the GPU temp of the APU, the one from the standalone GPU is shown perfectly.  :'(  :'(

YEP but the computer was a X-Mas present for my daughter and was purchased as per my requirements with parts I choose I guess that came with 13.0 or 12.1X so I didn't downgrade as was working

(if works don't touch ....  ;)  :)  :) )

 done only and update in last few days with this newest version.

Does CLinfo or GPUCapsViewer detect OpenCL support?

I upgraded from 12.1 to 12.8 and both BOINC and GPU-Z detected OpenCL support.

That makes sense, drivers released about 6 weeks before the October 1 2012 official release of the desktop Trinity chips. My laptop Trinity has drivers dated about the end of March and those chips were officially released May 15. I'm not sure exactly what Catalyst version they are, the numbers fall between those for 12.1 and 12.2 on HAL6000's cheat sheet.
