AK V8b regarding AMD CPU's question
« on: 20 Jul 2009, 02:00:17 pm »
I read over the Unified Installer post and saw that there was an AKV8b, i'm just a tad confused as to whether running the AKV8b application would increase processing times on my AMD X2 6000+

Thank you to any who are able to clarify this for me.

Sometime this week i will be upgrading to a AMD Phenom II 940 and handing this CPU over to one of my other machines. Thank you to any who are able to clarify this for me.

While the changes in v8b are very minor cosmetic ones, there is introduced the SSE3_AMD build with v8b, that tests from about the same to 5-7% faster depending on Angle range on those (SSE3 capable) cpus.

I will second Jason's Motion as I tested on an AMD X2-6000

I see, so it is only a minor increase. Is there a way for me to download the AKV8b AMD_SSE3 build, or must I download and run the unified installer?

I currently run the AKV8 AMD_SSE3 opti-app. Thanks Again!

The individual exe is sitting in Beta downloads, only since noone has gotten around to proper individual packaging with required GPL docs etc, (along with the other v8b exes). The easiest way to get it before then, which could be a while solely due to time constraints, would be to grab the installer, then (if you want) manually install to a temporary folder instead of the project directory to get individual files.  Probably easier to just run the appropriate installer though.

If I recall correctly SSE3_AMD should base on AkV8b version too. So probably you can leave what you have now untouched.

Thank you for the clarifications Jason and Raistmer. If nothing has changed for the SSE3_AMD build then i will just leave it untouched. I will just keep myself updated on new versions of the installer and any enhancements it may provide.
