Hello, first post here.

I been running setiathome on and off since the 1990's and finally decided to put my newer system to use. I currently run a Intel C2D E6700 @ 3200 mhz with Windows x64 SP2. I installed the latest 64bit v5.10.18 BOINC app to run on my system and then attached myself to my account. I then copied all the files in the "Files to install" folder over into the "BOINC\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu" folder and restarted the computer.

Now, when I run BOINC (installed as single user) the only app I find running is "setiathome_enhanced 5.27"...

How does one know for fact that the new "Optimized" version KWSN_2.4_SSSE3_IPP_Ben-Joe.exe is the app that is actually running?

I now have a file called "stderr.txt" that lists the following information

Can't open init data file - running in standalone mode
Can't open init data file - running in standalone mode
SETI@home error -5 Can't open file
(work_unit.sah) in read_wu_state() errno=2

File: ..\worker.cpp
Line: 144

SETI@home error -5 Can't open file
(work_unit.sah) in read_wu_state() errno=2

File: ..\worker.cpp
Line: 144

Is this behavior normal or have I installed the apps incorrectly? Thank You!

Best Regards,
SkOrPn

Did you unzip the files first?  If your KWSN app doesn't look like an alien's head, that would be why.  Just a shot in the dark, since you didn't mention unzipping.

Happy Crunching,

Pam

Well I always use winrar to unzip files, so yes the archive was extracted properly... That is a given so I didnt include such mundain info...

I just copied these from the messages tab from BOINC

The 5th line down 8/20/2007 5:33:05 PM|SETI@home|Found app_info.xml; using anonymous platform

Does this mean the optimized sse3 app is being used? If so, why does it claim "using setiathome_enhanced version 527"? Is this the optimized version number?

Im trying to be happy crunching but I need to know if the optimized seti app for my systems cpu is being used or not.

Thanks again for clarifying

Nevermind, after further investigation I think I discovered the answer to my own question, I think... lol

It seems to be crunching better than ever so I must conclude that it is infact using the 64bit optimized SSE3 app.

I guess you have your setup just right. The line you're quoting doesn't say anything about particular executable being run. It just says that it's running seti_enhanced version 5.27. The name part is essential as it denotes type of Work Unit. Version number is less essential but important nevertheless.

If you examine contents of app_info.xml you'll see that here's a <app_name>seti_enhanced</app_name> and there's <version_num>527</version_num> and just under that you'll see <file_name>something.exe</file_name> where something.exe would be the name of executable you installed.

You can always check what application is running by examining output of Task Manager - it's handy to sort it by CPU usage in descending order.

Yeah I guess it has been done correctly, it sure is crunching better than ever. In the coming months I should get a grasp on whats going on around here as my interest in helping continue the search for ET has been growing larger. And my machines will continue to get more powerful...

Now to figure out what versions of optimized apps to run, sse2, sse3 or ssse3... lol

Use CPUZ to find out.
Use Goolgle to find CPUZ.

And then use the highest.

Yes I got it figured out thanks... My c2d supports ssse3 so I used that new 2.4v ssse3 app.
