Nvidia vs ATI
« on: 19 Oct 2012, 07:20:09 pm »
Hi

I have simple question.

I thinking to buy graphics card.  Not only for very good performance in games but for SETI  to.

My old graphics is 260GTX nvidia but  now i confused because i heard poor performance NVIDIA kepler in opencl and maybe time to buy ATI 79XX

For seti crunching OpenCL is important ? i dont know but maybe opencl is for ex. Adobe photoshop etc.

I need help

Good performance games, SETI crunching and for other apps ( photoshop etc )

thx

Beast regards

Slawek

Hi Slawek

A 79xx is probably a good thing to buy.
Great performance on games and very good on seti crunching as well.

I will buy myself a 7970 for christmas.

regards
Mike

Hello Slawek:

Lots of information here. It may help you decide.
i see the Radeon 7970 is very high rated.

   i have 2 Nvidia cards in my main rig, a GTX460 and a GTX560ti.

I would really like to see a 7970 in the top 20 hosts. I'm sure it is just a matter of time, but that will be a great comparison.

I will buy one in the near future but i fear 1 of them is not enough to hit top 20 hosts.
Most are running at least 2 GPUs in the top 20.

We`ll see.

I have still a GTX260 O/C at S@h, very well for a ~ 18,000 RAC.

hostid=6655244 with 3 x AMD/ATI GPU - currently #40 in the top host list.

Top GPU models at S@h (overview with stock apps only). Stock S@h apps.
This mean on NVIDIA GPUs S@h Enhanced & Astropulse, on AMD/ATI GPUs only Astropulse (in the overview).

The most WUs are S@h Enhanced.

So I guess the highest RAC still with NVIDIA GPUs.

If someone compare the highest reachable S@h RAC with NVIDIA and AMD/ATI GPUs (top series) ..
Single / dual GPU card?

NVIDIA:
GTX680 (single)
GTX690 (dual)

AMD/ATI:
?
?

Which RAC would be reachable only with S@h Enhanced WUs?

Steve

If someone wanted to plug in 4 I'm sure they could get numbers comparable to the top producers.  My 7970 is around #300 for production
