Any 256+  series driver installed ( 260.99 seems good ) will be enough for 0.37 .  Cuda 3.2 builds won't be released until sometime after nVidia relase one witnout the RC tag, and some worthwhile imrovements can be added.

OK thank you. Been a bit out of touch this summer. I'm still using CUDA 2.3.  Best to just wait, or find 3.1 drivers?

For CUDA 2.3 and prior there were specific dll's etc to install. I didn't see that for V3.x. Has this changed while I was busy ranching?

Basically the Cuda 3.0 build in the 0.37 installer comes with, and installs, the ones it needs,  and nVidia's changed the way things work by specifically naming the DLLs by version the application was built with.  So swapping DLLs around is no longer recommended, and while could possibly work (with jiggering) is not guaranteed to be reliable & stable etc.   For pre Fermi cards, there are some reliability benefits to using the newer Cuda 3.0 build in the 0.37 installer (x32f), though not a great deal of speed difference yet.  Cuda 3.1 itself had some issues with Multi-GPU setups that prevented a release, so next one will be 3.2.

Since there are quite a few new features in 3.2 to make use of toward eeking out a bit more performance & stability, the next release will be based on that one but will be a way off.  That is because using those features requires fairly extensive code modifications for both Fermi & Pre-Fermi archiotectures to see enough benefit to be worth the effort.

Jason thank you for the explanation on advancements while I've been distracted. I'll move to the 0.37 installer on the farm.

New AMD drivers are out, 10-11 APP http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/radeon_win7-64.aspx
BUT
Quote
OpenCL 1.1 conformance tests have not been run with this version of the ATI Catalyst Driver Suite in conjunction with the ATI Stream SDK v2.2. If you require an OpenCL 1.1 conformant driver, we recommend that you install the ATI Catalyst 10.10 Driver Suite

Looks like a slight speed increase as well on Raistmers ATI MB build
for a midrange AR task down from ~ 1hr 36 > ~1hr 25

Also getting less screen lag with these new drivers :D

Somebody at GPUGrid has noticed that the Cuda 3.2 toolkit is also available for general download - http://developer.nvidia.com/object/cuda_3_2_downloads.html

What a coincidence ;D. Haven't gone looking for any matching drivers yet.

must have been in the last 36h. I checked yesterday. 260.99 are 3.2 compatible, 258.96 looks like it isn't.

The GPUGrid post was only about an hour ago.

Are you sure about those drivers? The developer drivers linked with the toolkit are up to 263.06 for desktops, though still at 260.99 for notebooks. Probably best to wait until the dust has settled in the morning before making any definitive recommendations.

I'd say that's 3.2 ;)
Yes notebook drivers are usually out a tad later. Guess high end business is a much smaller market than gamers ;D
Maybe this time round they managed to fix my occasional blue screen...

There's the added complication of WHQL 262.99 drivers, released November 9, 2010 to support the GeForce 500 series, but the recommended version is still 260.99 for any lesser desktop card.

I'm actually running the interim 260.89 WHQL drivers (couldn't be bothered to update again). Is there a CUDA 3.2 app available yet for alpha testing, just to see where the dividing line really is?

Since confirmed, that 260.89 onwards is sufficient to run Cuda 3.2 release SDK built application.

I've split the Powerspectrum GPU memory subsystems test stuff off into it's own thread, as the results I'm seeing appear valuable.

Cheers, Jason

Has anyone tried the 265.90 driver available here
http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/topic/27644-v26590-windows-7vista-64bit-quadro-desktop
( driver not WHQL certified, source unknown )
on a GTX 460 card yet ?

With new WU's possibly being available as soon as Tuesday i'm looking
to make up for lost time and certainly can't afford a hardware upgrade
now or any time in the near future.
Because we are NOT alone.

Yup, I tried them for another experiment - http://lunatics.kwsn.net/12-gpu-crunching/split-powerspectrum-unit-test.msg33737.html#msg33737
not sure where he got these drivers from as they haven't been released on the nvidia site as far as I can see.
The devloper drivers are only at 263.xx at the moment and can't find any trace of these drivers anywhere else

I think I will stick with the developer drivers for the time being as they work just fine for me.
