Could theme be changed a little to allow more rational screen area usage.
Maybe its fine for large screens but on my 11,6" netbook dead fields from left and right severely limit usable screen area.
Even with side columns minimized there is not too good layout for adequate message reading.

Space between avatar and text area is too big too. In short - too much of screen area wasted for nothing.

Would it be possible to make the disappearing side-panels a user-selectable feature, say via the profile page? For those of us that use full-size screens, especially now that they've all had the bottom sliced off (i.e. 16:9 or 16:10 aspect ratio), they're actually rather useful for monitoring the whole picture.

Right above Home, Forum, FAQ links should be the switches to turn the 2 columns on and off.

That will give the forum 95% width with them off.

Thanks, that works well here for this thread. I think the active 'SETI Multibeam v8' thread is being stretched sideways by a 'pre' or 'code' block, so the right panel is only half visible with my current settings.

Edit - I think it's Mike's quote of Raistmer's 'pre' block in msg59557 which is doing the stretching (the quote level adds extra width). Could 'pre' be given a horizontal scroll bar where needed? (I don't know how much fine control is possible over things like that).

No setting that I can find to add a scroll bar, I did edit the post to split the name of the test.

That setting is buried somewhere in the php code and I did not see anything in a quick scan.

Yes, I found that too, and I've now re-split it at a slightly more natural place. Between us we can tidy up any individual thread (if we notice it) - or posters can tidy their own posts as they go along. I just wondered if it was possible to have the board do it automatically. Not a big deal if not.
