Title: BOINC Manager
Post by: TouchuvGrey on 20 Dec 2008, 06:30:49 pm
Normally when i start SETI@Home in my
AuthenticAMD
AMD Turion(tm) 64 Mobile Technology ML-34 [Family 15 Model 36 Stepping 2]
running Linux
2.6.27-9-generic ( Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex )

i open a  terminal and type
cd BOINC
./run_client

i then open a tab and type
./run_manager

Do i need the manager running all the time the client is ?
will i crunch a bit faster with it closed because of less load on the cpu ?

You need only BOINC client, not manager app. It's definitely true for Windows , think it work fo linux too. Try to list all runningprocesses in yur system, if you see SETI processes - all OK :)

You can run boinc client as a daemon (in background without manager). Why don't you use already prepared packages from distribution channel or the most recent stable version from getdeb.net (http://www.getdeb.net/search.php?keywords=boinc). If you use it, boinc will run as a daemon without any hacking.
