Title: Astro-pulse optimized app?
Post by: autocrosser on 02 Oct 2008, 04:54:07 am
Was wondering if anyone is working on a optimized app for Astro-pulse? Right now on my Core2 Quad running at 3.0--I'm seeing 35/40 hours to finish one unit. Hoping that you guys can pull a rabbit out of the hat again :)

Yes, work is going on.
Hope soon will be some initial release for SSE3 and up CPUs.

Great to hear--I could do testing if you need a subject----

Yes, testing needed, but you need access to prerelease area for that. Ask one of moderators to grant you such access.

I too am interested in beta testing and have a number of diverse platforms and OS's.

Linux app is waiting the person who will build it :)
Sources for Windows release are posted along with binaries, hope someone will try to build them under Linux too.

Is this something I should attempt or do you think that Simon will take it on?

2 AP reported with errors from one of my boxes.  This is the message I reported on the Seti site.  I don't know how they uploaded and reported with the Seti server down.

Thanks for report. I answered in that thread. In short - it's OCing most probably.

Crunch3r has made an untested build for Linux X64, see his post (http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=49749&nowrap=true#821083) in the Number Crunching forum.

Sadly Crunch3r 's version seems not to work. Here is what stderr.txt looks like on T7200 running OpenSuSe 10.3 64bit after a first standalone test:

Can't open init data file - running in standalone mode

Crunch3r did try another build (http://calbe.dw70.de/astrop/AP_linux_32bit_sse3.tar.bz2) today of the optimized AP for linux, this time 32bit sse3. This one seems to work. Testing is underway (early T7200 speedup: ca. 67%)

later: 27.325%, 6:42:00 hous => prediction: ca. 24.52 hours total, taking 60 hours as previous host average, this build seems ca. 2.45 times faster.

the other day: Final run time: 24:14 hours, final speedup factor: 2.47 times faster than stock.

Excellent!  Knew it was only a matter of time.  Once we have verification of working radar blanking & finalised Berkeley release changes included (if any) I'll drop him a message to get the new updates if he wants them.  I've little doubt that whichever compiler he's using on Linux, it's better than MS, so Linux might show a slight advantage for a short while.  (Not ready to plunge into an ICC building spree just yet, 'till stock changes settle down anyway. )

I have been using the referenced Astropluse App & the speedup with my Quad 3.0 is 1/2 the time to finish a dataunit--from 40hr to 20hr.  Units that will finish in the next day:
