Title: Question about the new 2.4 versions for Linux
Post by: n7rfa on 26 Aug 2007, 09:34:26 pm
I see that there are new 32-bit versions of 2.4.

What do these new versions, dated August 21st, fix and why are the 64-bit versions still dated August 08?

That's nothing to worry about. Somehow, in vmware the date is out of sync and jumps some days ahead, for what reasons... unknown and actually i don't worry about that at all. (that's only happening on the 32 bit SuSE9.2 ... on the 64 bit SuSE 10 it works somehow.)

Thanks Crunch3r. I was afraid I was missing something.

Usually you can tell VMware to synchronize guest's clock with host's OS. I think it was as a checkbox in the (additionally installed - display drivers etc.) VMware Tools package?

Now that could explain the date "issues". i haven't installed the vmware-tools as i don't need them. I usually only use the shell, compile the apps and that's it.

I can only reccomend it to you. If not for other reasons, then at least using the (guest OS's) display drivers in wmvare-tools is much more efficient.

And (since the version 2.x or 3.x?) the installation is actually hassle-free, almost automatically. (In 1.x or 2.x it was nearly a nightmare.)
