Title: Is this possible???
Post by: Geek@Play on 24 May 2010, 11:42:23 am
Is it possible to build a app_info file that would run both

ap_5.05r409_SSE.exe  and AK_v8b_win_SSSE3x.exe on the CPU side.

MB_6.08_CUDA_V12_VLARKill_FPLim2048.exe on the GPU side.

Then I could use the reschedule tool to move the VLAR to the CPU's and still crunch AP at the same time on the CPU.

*scratching head* ...I must me missing something in the question.   installer does exactly that.  You can install the files to a temporary folder somewhere else if you wanted & use the generated app info as a template for your real installation, if some sort of customisation is wanted.

The point is to be able to crunch both MB VLAR and AstroPulse on the CPU.

And what's stopping this ? I do this all the time.  You mean on the same core or something ?

No not on the same core...

But to have a cache for the CPU which contains both MB and AP.

Cache for GPU to contain MB only.

That's a 'regular' installer installation (with all 3 apps selected).

I made changes to work MB and AP on my cpu's as well as MB on the GPU's.

After the project had difficulties over the last weekend and then the normal outage on Tuesday I have downloaded a lot of work in the last few days for my 5 day cache.  But in all the downloads not one AP work unit was assigned.  My web settings are as follows.

Run only the selected applications SETI@home Enhanced: yes
Astropulse: yes
Astropulse v5: yes

If no work for selected applications is available, accept work from other applications? yes

Is there anything I can do to increase odds of getting a AP work units?

Maybe:

Run only the selected applications SETI@home Enhanced: No
Astropulse: No
Astropulse v5: No

If no work for selected applications is available, accept work from other applications? yes

That's how I'm running my hosts, and the two which are capable of doing AP work have been assigned some often enough. For instance, 4 of the most recent 100 tasks on my Pentium-M host have been AP.

Claggy has been recommending leaving Astropulse and Astropulse v5 in 'yes', but as far as I'm concerned that's just a waste of the server's time looking for types of work which no longer exist.

Thank you Joe, I'll try those settings and see if it improves.

On my test-rig, a Q6600 and a HD5770, EAH4850, I've ran 4 optimized MB (SETI@Home) and 2 AP 5.05 WU's, 0.2CPU+0.5ATI (rev.393 , now rev. 280 and ATI13ATI).
Also run SETI Bêta on that host.
4 Docking or somethingelse works too.

You can't deselect all three applications, it just just defaults to:

Run only the selected applications (all applications)

The reason i say keep Astropulse and Astropulse_v5 selected, is in case the project renames/reworks one of the switches to v505 and keeps that preference,
or runs a script to set a new v505 switch to one of the old preferences, in eithier case you'll still should get Astropulse_v505 work,

Joes settings certainly made for good results.  One box received one AP, another box received 2 AP today.
