Hi All,
I've been processing seti since 1999 and have only just become aware of optimised apps. :-[
I'm complete newbie here, and i'm sorry if i've missed a relevant thread somewhere else.
I've read through alot of threads in the forum but most of it is way over my head, so any help it getting started would be appreciated.
I would like to be able to run enhanced, astropuls and astropulse v5. Below is a report of my current system running XP Pro SP3 (32 bit)

CPU-Z reports me SSE3 but BOINC SSE2
I've downloaded an app_info.xml file and an app from the downloads section, but i'm not sure if it's the correct one (ap_Win32_5.03r112_5.00r103_SSE3.7z) and what to do with it.
What's the 7z extension?
Does it need compiling?
Do i put them into my E:\boinc-data\projects\seti folder?
Many thanks
Ron

7z stands for 7-zip and it can be downloaded from http://www.7-zip.org/download.html
Try this one as it has all 3 optimized apps included SSE3 AKv8, AP5 r103 & APv5 r112 (http://www.arkayn.us/seti/Win32_AK_AP_SSE3.7z)
No compiling needed, just drop the files in the Files to Install folder to E:\boinc-data\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu

arkayn ,
i'll give it a go after work tonight, and let you know what happens.
Many thanks

And if you want the 9600GSO to Crunch Cuda Multibeam instead of the CPU, you can use the app_info and files from this thread (http://lunatics.kwsn.net/12-gpu-crunching/laptop-with-8400m-g.msg15751.html#msg15751),
the app_info is for SSE3 astropulse, SSE3 astropulse_v5 and the stock Cuda app, or you could splice in Raistmer's v7 or v10 app instead of the stock app.

claggy,
Doesn't boinc automatically use my GPU?
I've downloaded the 4 files. Do i replace the app-info file included in the "SSE3 AKv8, AP5 r103 & APv5 r112" download with the one in your other thread?
or you could splice in Raistmer's v7 or v10 app instead of the stock app.
??
??? Sorry that's way over my head at the moment. It looks like i'm on a steep learning curve here. :o
thanks for your patience.

Yes Boinc will automatically use a GPU when running stock (ie without an app_info.xml), But if you use Boinc with an app_info you need all the apps referenced in it,
If you didn't have the Cuda app in it, and had the AK_V8 instead then Multibeam work would be done with that instead, on the CPU and slower, and if there wasn't a reference for Multibeam then it wouldn't do it at all.
Just shut down Boinc, put the 4 files, and the two Astropulse apps (from the package) and swap the app_info.xml (with the one in the other thread) in your setiathome folder, and you'll need the cc_config.xml file as well, this goes in your BoincData folder,
then start up Boinc again.
<cc_config>
<options>
<ncpus>3</ncpus>
</options>
</cc_config>

Claggy,
The apps suggested by arkayn seem to be working OK. ;D
I'll give yours a go after i've had my tea and a kip, It's been along day.
I thank both of you for your help.

Everything seems to be working OK with the new apps, although i seem to be running two astropulses and an einstein on 2 cores, one of which (einstein) didn't seem to be progressing. I've set "no new tasks" on both accounts, and suspended all but two of the tasks. I assume this is because i have set 3 cpu's in the cc_config and there is nothing to run on the gpu. I can cope with handling that manually.
Many thanks for all the help.
