Hello optimizers,
since the release of the new SETI application I've crunched a few workunits on my Athlon XP 2000+. I compared the CPU times of the SSE optimized app (KWSN-2.4-Windows32-SSE) and the stock app. I was very surprised ...
The CPU times are nearly the same:
5.27 stock app: result #588642713 (http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=588642713), AR 0.405761, CPU time: 24909 secs
KWSN-2.4-Windows32-SSE: result #588642787 (http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=588642787), AR 0.405878, CPU time: 25166 secs
I thought that at least the use of the available instruction sets would make things faster. Are you sure that you have enabled the use of the SSE instructions ...? ;-)
Regards,
Carsten

Yeah,
I'm sure :) However, there will shortly be new 2.4 32-bit Windows apps, so we can check whether the situation improves then.

Simon.

Hello Simon,
thank you for your answer and for the nice work you and the other optimizers are doing. So, let's keep our fingers crossed ... :-)
Do you have an explanation why the SSE optimizations doesn't show an effect at the moment?
Regards,
Carsten
