Title: For those of you who couldn't get any WU the last few days...

I searched the technical forum of SETI for upload/download problems.
And, there seems to be a problem with optimized apps.
I found this method, that worked great and so I got 20 new WUs.

Well good news it worked for you, but i recommend caution... while trying that one i managed to get a 100 + ghosts to add to the previous 250 ones ;)

so all in all 350 ghosts among 20 hosts... i detached and will crunch only abc...

Now I also got around 40 ghost WUs, but I have 40 in my cache on my host that are ready for crunching.

Don't know what happens with these ghost WUs...

So, be careful with this method.

First off, it's not the optimized apps that are the problem. It's the way BOINC uses the anonymous platform mechanism (which is what app_info.xml controls).

All transfers are 100% handled by BOINC, not the science app itself.

That said, it seems that following a recent server code change the platform mechanism is broken. So until that's resolved, all we can do is wait and use the workaround.

-first remove boinc with the windows tools + remove the directory in program files
-lets the first unit terminate and download a second batch of WU
-after this install the optimize application, this way you didn't generate "ghost" unit.

I had used the enhanced running chicken apps since few month and since last server outage, I made few test:
I got one WU on my two PC after setiserver repaired, after this nothing until now !:

My two original configuration:
Compaq P4 under XP2 with Boinc 5.8.16 and KWSN 2.2B
PC (homemade) PIII 1GHZ under w98SE with B 5.8.16. and legacy seti client.

When I upgrade to kwsn 2.2b on the 98SE couldn't get any results, and same trouble on XP2 (many other project are crunching without major problems)

So I have installed on the 2 pc the last good boinc version (5.4.11) on other directory and I have only join seti project: Download WU very well

I will continue to investigate the relation between enhanced client and boinc manager

I have tryed a lot of way to download wu with Enhance apps.

I could at least achieve that today on my XP plattform!!

I have run the diagnostic tool from Microsoft about the genuine advantage (hum advanish...?)
And after restarting boinc: I could get a wu.

I don"t know if it's a 'coincidence' but I came to this point because when I got my first trouble on my W98SE with was because I have download (big mistake) the wga plug in..

Let me know if you have the same sucess

1. I set seti to "no new work"
2. I paused seti.
3. I Closed BOINC (and stopped the boinc service)
4. I moved the "app_info.xml" from seti-folder to somewhere else or rename it.
5. I started BOINC and resumed seti.

Now, SETI doesn't use an anonymious platform and is able to download new WUs.

Until SETI has WUs to crunch in the cache (at least 1 WU ready before the active WU is done) it will use the optimized app.

My XP-M Barton is also attached to einstein and so the situation came where seti had no WU because einstein was active.
After BOINC decided to give seti CPU-time BOINC downloaded the standard seti app and the WU began with the standard app.
But my Pentium D works fine with this method.
