Have you tried to run the linux ones in your machine? The openbsd link I've posted above talks about running linux binaries in openbsd. Is it feasible? This would interest especially me, because i have to decide, if an extra build for BSD is necessary or if these can live with the i686 gnu-linux versions ?

Negative amount of RAM ? Is that normal on your's, zvonas ?
Nope. I have contacted dotsch.de about it already. I am giving up installing seti on 64bit freebsd 7.2. No working seti client for this OS exists on the net:-(tsk. >:( dotsch will be able to help, i hope.
No response from him. Just delivery notification of my email. Maybe he is busy. However I have found working BOINC client for 64bit FreeBSD 7.2 and 64bit SETI app too, but they are unoptimized and run very very slow on my machine...That cpu type BOINC shows is funnny, must be a coproduction:

Urs, bitte bitte sehr ;)Have a little bit more patience, please. It is in the top 3 of my todo list-now! ;)
FreeBSD 64 bit APP :'(
Thank you very much Urs! ;)zvonas,
Hi,The AstroPulse checkboxes (for discontinued astropulse and astropulse_v5) are useless for current applications.
I have installed the SSE3 x64 FreeBSD version. However I get this message:
30-Aug-2009 13:51:40 [SETI@home] Message from server: Your app_info.xml file doesn't have a version of SETI@home Enhanced.
So this executable is for Astropulse only... I think. It doesn't try to download workunits however there were http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/sah_status.html some available both enahanced and AP WU's.
How can I get to compute both enhanced and AP units?
Thanx again for your work.
I'd like to see an SSSE3 capable 64-bit MB for FreeBSD 7.2 too. I've never been able to build the stock MB in ports and it pulls in an enourmous amount of xorg libraries trying to build it, poisining my CLI only FreeBSD router... :(Seems that version has graphics enabled. Otherwise that would not be needed.
Ok. I have modified the app_info for using both executables and checked the checkbox in my profile. Now it is running. It's crunching enhanced units now. I have to wait for boinc to download first AP units. Then I will let ya know ;) thanx for adviceHope you get your first AstroPulse wu within the next two weeks. Longer i do not intend to let these in beta state.
Hi Urs,I already tried setiathome enhanced (aka MB), but that needs (a lot) more work before it can be used. For the moment its only opt. AstroPulse 5.06 .
I had to ldd boinc_client and seti app too as well before I could even run it. So everything works fine-I only have to wait for downloading AP workunits :)
I am going to test the SSE2 APP on my opteron, we will see ;)
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=5108564
Anyway, is there a plan to release optimized app for non-astropulse units - I mean seti@home enhanced? I am using stock app and that is sloooow...
Thanx ;)
I'll help out. Just installed the sse3 version and downloaded one AP wu on my FreeBSD router. It's only a 1,6GHz Celeron so first run time estimate is five days... I probably should recompile those fftw libraries with gcc 4.3...The most actual fftw-3.2.2 will do. The libfftw3f in usr/local/lib is what is needed.
Yes, that was a little interesting actually. My library is called libfftw3f.so.5 so I had to make a symlink to libfftw3f.so.4 which was in the output from ldd. Still the version is 3.2.2 which is the current in Ports.Recalculate your time prediction after 5% or 10% into the wu. That should give you more realistic estimations (from experience with other OSs).
1st percent finished in 20 minutes and if it scales linearly, which it usually does, it should finish in about 30 hours. That's also a little funny. I run the Linux version on an sse3 capable Athlon64 which i have downclocked from 2,4GHz to 2,0Ghz to keep the fan silent. That CPU needs 52 hours to finish one AP. If the Celeron finish faster, despite it's only 1,6GHz, I'd be pretty surprised... but I have read that the sse3 implementation in the Athlon64s isn't very good but the tests I've seen at least put it on par with sse2. It will be interesting to see when this wu actually finish. Thanks for your excellent work Urs.
The first AP with the FreeBSD version is still in validation but I notice some peculiarities:Everything looks ok. Just have to wait if it validates. That wu was "noisy" and had found early into the wu already too many pulses. That also was the reason why it went so quick. Normal times will be much longer (2x or more). If you get higher "percent blanked" values that will slow down calculation even more. All ok. ;D
- Claimed credit is only 473. I thought all the new APs were 800 credits?
- Run time is reported as 18 hours but unless something happened during the final phase (while I was sleeping) this wu ran for 30 hours.
stderr can be found here: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=1376540593
It says something about "exiting" and "percent blanked".
I forgot to check that wu frequently enough and it's now gone from my statistics. The second wu finished in 44 hours and validated correctly though. Will have a look when Seti is back on the net. Thanks pp

Two more in queue. I'll report back if they error out.
A bit off topic ::)Depends on what you want to do 600MiB+ will work. But that is rather low. The interesting stuff (ports collection) starts with an extra 400MiB+.
How big is a standard freebsd installation?

My guess is with 10GiB or more you will have enough space to live on FreeBSD.
Hope that helps.

Run only the selected applications SETI@home Enhanced: no
Astropulse: no
Astropulse v5: no
If no work for selected applications is available, accept work from other applications? yes
The last setting is the important one since that's what enables AP v505. Finally update the location of your FreeBSD computer to "school" and manually update the project once. Boinc should now download your new preferences and AP units should start downloading as soon as they're available.
]A question for Urs here I guessShort answer :
There is no such file... neither when running nor when stopped.
I have no choice, there is only one version of BOINC for 64bit freebsd :(

Why can't you use the Boinc version in Ports?
I have no choice, there is only one version of BOINC for 64bit freebsd :(
Astropulse has a binary checkpoint file (ap_state.dat*) which contains the fraction done in a double, so it's not convenient to check that way.
boinccmd --get_results will list all the tasks, including their fraction done.
Or for versions prior to the boinc_task_state.xml change you can open BOINC's client_state.xml file and check the <fraction_done> fields there.
Joe
Why can't you use the Boinc version in Ports?
Because it allways wants to install tons of X11 libraries and I don't want to use them, I am running FreeBSD as a server only without graphics support.
Thank you for this AP application:Result and wu lists are currently unavailable. Which version running on what host ? How much time did it take (compared to another version) ?
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/results.php?hostid=5106981
When the WU lists were available, from what I remember that was SSE3 64bit WIN APP Core2@2.66GHz vs SSE3 64bit FreeBSD APP Xeon 3360@2.83GHz. But we have to wait until the WU lists on seti HP are available again. That link pointed to both machines - the same workunit. Was the used FreeBSD AP app r236 or r237 ? :-\
Urs, I think that was still 236. After I installed 237, I could not compare since the seti was down again... I will letya know. Anyway, the 64bit SSE2 APP works perfectly as well. Let's wait until seti homepage wakes up again ;)The wu lists are visible again. r237 is doing nice on your Xeon. What do you think, zvonas, is speed better now ? :D
Now it's perfect Urs! 8) I am waiting for my second machine (Dual Dual-core Opteron 265) to report SSE3 237 WUs compared to SSE2 237:Aha, i see, Opteron is doing not so good with SSE2. Needs some patience now to see, if SSE3 will work better on that host.

They do not run on 64 bit version, could someone recompile them please?Ahh, you do not have the 32bit runtime for x86_64 installed, is that ?

Was that line there ?
Hi, is there a schedule for building FREEBSD 32bit Astropulse application? Thank you. PavelThere was none, because there were no requests for such a version, not even ONE suggestion to make one.
There was none, because there were no requests for such a version, not even ONE suggestion to make one.I can only provide 64 bit version of Freebsd for remote login. 32 bit version which I want to use, is not available for remote login (ssh). However I can run tests on it (32bit) and give you feedback. Thanx.
Now i put it on schedule.
Thanks for your input.
Will you provide some test resources (a host running FreeBSD 32bit) ?

However I can run tests on it (32bit) and give you feedback. Thanx.Running a few tests is all that will be needed (i hope) to make sure it works correct. Any wishes for supplemental support for the 32bit version (SSE, SSE2, SSE3) ?
I'm currently updating my build environment to FreeBSD8.0 , so it could take a few more days till a new version is out. ;DThe Update failed badly. (ata-ahci problem which is currently not solved in any FreeBSD8.x) Will use again older 7.x version. Damn wasted whole week with that.
Hi,
I cannot decompress the bzippet tar package "FreeBSD 32bit AstroPulse_v505, v5.06 beta1, r446, Aug10"
maybe the archive is corrupted?
Sorry for being offline so long.
Thank you.
Pavel
I am sorry, any of my programs I have now tried did not unpack it. Can you post it packed in common way so I can unpack it?Will provide new (bzip2) and older (targzip) formats in future if that is the problem for no testing during the last few month. :-\
Thank you.
