Title: OSX AP Client Slow?
Post by: palerider on 04 May 2009, 10:00:32 pm
I realize this isn't an OSX forum, but I don't seem to find one.  At any rate, has anyone else noticed that the new OSX AP client is about half the speed of the Windows client on the same hardware?  MB seems to be the same.  Is this a known issue that can be resolved?

And if there is a more appropriate room for this topic just let me know.

Thanks,

Chris

Hi there,
While not an OSX forum, we certainly did experience some of the portability issues that made AP builds tricky.  This specifically involves code from the stock application fast folding routines.  At the time, some optimisation was needed to be disabled to conserve numerical compatibility with stock and windows 32 bit builds for AstroPulse 5.00 and 5.03.

Raistmer since isolated at least some (hopefully all) of the offending low precision areas, and submitted some fixes to Berkeley, which should appear in the next stock release.  The net effect should be to make the entire stock and optimised codebases more portable to Linux, OSX, 64 bit, and possibly other platforms, without sacrificing optimisation for future builds.

Thanks for the insightful reply.  I shall bide my time then and run my AP wu's in Windows for the time being then.

Thanks again,

Chris
