Title: GTX6x0 performance?
Post by: PatrickV2 on 11 May 2012, 02:48:48 pm
Hi there,

Do people on this forum have experience with the performance of one of the GTX6x0 GPU's for Seti@Home?

I read some reviews/benchmarks where it was revealed that in several GPU computing tasks, a GTX680 performed lower than many GTX5x0 based GPU's.

So, has some experience been gather on how the GTX6x0 GPUs fare running the CUDA apps?

(This incidentally has to do with slowly materializing plans to upgrade my machine; current machine is a Q6600/8800GTX combination. New one is currently planned to be an i7-3930k/GTX680 combation.)

Thanks for any insights,

Patrick.

Ask on the Seti Boards, Jason G will likely answer there.

I do not participate on the Seti Boards, so that's going to be difficult at best.

However, my apologies, since this topic was already raised much earlier, and even answered (somewhat):

http://lunatics.kwsn.net/12-gpu-crunching/nvidia-gtx-680.0.html

So similar performance to a GTX580 at 20% less power is ok with me; hopefully further Kepler-specific optimizations will enhance the performance further.

Regards, Patrick.

The 680 for example isnīt faster than 480 or 580.
It needs special optimization.

But iīm sure Jason is working on it.
He mentioned at seti new version are showing good performance.
So its only a question of time.
