R-1.3 Linux apps released

(1/2) > >>

Simon:
Hi folks,

here are some new SETI@Home apps for Linux. They're functionally the same as the Windows versions and compiled from the same codebase.
They've been tested and deliver valid results on all current test platforms, but as always, YMMV.

You can find the new apps here.

An Intel-only SSE3 build will follow soon.

To install these optimized apps, first download and install BOINC, then attach to SETI@Home (if you haven't already). Let it download the stock app and some WUs. Quit BOINC.

Then, simply unpack the .tar.bz file like so:

cd BOINC/projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu
tar xfvj /where/you/downloaded/setiathome-5.15-1.3-*.tar.bz
Then restart BOINC and you're done. All archives contain a working app_info.xml preconfigured for the app they came with.

Happy crunching!

Regards,
Simon.

Seems to work on my Pentium-M and P4.

Thanks for the updates, Simon!

And Thank You even more for getting a Linux MMX version out to us - I finally have an optimized app on my ancient Celeron. :)

Simon:
They do include some minor updates from the 1.2 versions, most prominently the checkpoint() fix.

Also, they were compiled using different flags. In my experience, they're marginally quicker than 1.2.

Just checked the top hosts for S@H and noticed all the top PCs are using my apps. Nice :)

HTH,
Simon.
