Google AdSense ads to support SETI@Home donations

(1/8) > >>

Simon:
Hi Folks,

I've been thinking about this a while, but really can't come up with a decision.
So, instead I decided to ask you.

What's your opinion on Google AdSense advertisements displayed on this site to support SETI@Home?

Please cast your vote in the poll and help me make up my mind. I'd also like to hear your opinion in more detail - just click "reply".

Thanks for your participation,
Simon.

My take is that whatever can be done to keep the project alive should be done, so I voted for the ads. I'm quite willing to see them and may even follow links if Google does a decent job of figuring out what else might interest visitors here.

While I voted for bad idea I could also have voted for I'd rather donate.
AdSense ads may be useful for income but I don't think I've ever clicked one and they make mess of the page.
If I'm looking to puchase something, I have a list of known and trusted suppliers.

No one likes to be bombarded by a bunch of ads but we now live in desperate SaH times. I would support anything that helps our favorite hobby. You can always stop supporting the ads at later date when we're out of the woods . . .

Simon,

I think you know my stance...(Good idea, I'm all for it.) In fact I sent you a PM about this topic a few weeks ago.

For those that are skeptics...go to http://www.boincsynergy.com/stats/index.php, they do a very good job of making the the ads look good.  Since Google will pay you for both # of clicks AND number of views based on the advertiser's configuration  if it is done tastefully I think it is a good idea.

As for me...I click the links whenever I see something of interest....The nice part about Google Adsense is that the ads in each THREAD will be different (and relevant) based on the WORDS on the page.
