I messed everything up
« on: 21 Feb 2014, 02:09:22 pm »
I messed everything up on my computer.  Was trying to get some Astropulse x64 to be used in processing my work.  In the process I trashed 28 AP work units.  So now I have reset the project, installed optimized apps 0.41 using only AP.  So now I wait trying to get some AP work.  Can someone show me how to get some x64 bit optimized apps installed now that I don't have any work to trash?

I admit this is all my fault!

First of all, do Benches of AP apps you want to run to find the fastest one, no-one has tried the latest AP apps on an i7-4700 yet, let alone a i7-4700HQ,

Second, delete AP6_win_x86_SSE_CPU.aistub from your project directory,

Third, copy AP package to project directory (if there is a package available, and not just an app on it's own, then it's a copy and paste job for every old AP app entry for the new app, and for the new libfftw3f-3_x64.dll instead of libfftw3f-3.dll)

Fourth, run aimerge.cmd, this will combine the different .aistub's into one app_info (Don't do this if you're doing a copy and paste job)

Fifth, Restart Boinc.

Not watching real close and I downloaded 10 AP GPU work units.  I set to "no new work" and will let the GPU crunch these before doing anything for x64 apps. Meanwhile I have to learn how to do the benchmarks.

Are the files........

libfftw3f-3.dll
libfftw3f-3_x64.dll

Required in the benchmark and where do put them?  I have temporarily put them with the application files.

Yes, they are both needed, they go with the applications, I tend to use the Stock 6.01 app and it's dll as reference.

Here is my first result file (I think).

It makes no sense to me but maybe someone here can help me.

You ran the apps with just the wisdom generation workunit.

posting results from the last run.

Anyone have any comments for me?
First of all, all the apps produced good results with:

All Signals: Checked  40, 40 , Strongly Similar
                  Pulses: Checked  30, 30 , Strongly Similar
Best Pulses: Checked  10, 10 , Strongly Similar

The fastest on the JasonShort_v5.wu was the AP6_win_x64_SSE3_CPU_all_opt.exe app, not sure what revision that was, but none of the are from the latest revision, and you have no AVX apps there.

Ok..................

First run this morning is with sigind_v5.wu which took some time to run.  I also have included a couple of AVX app's in the run.  Result file is included here.

Any comments?

None of the files I have are included in a package that includes the AISTUB file so can't use the AIMERGE app to create a new app_info.

On that run it was the x64_AVX_CPU_r2163_PGO_vc2010.exe app that was fastest (same as on my i7-2600K), being 30 to 60 secs faster than the majority of the other apps,

When you do benches, leave the wisdom generation workunit in, otherwise the first app to run (of that revision) does the wisdom generation and the reported time will be slow,
and might mislead which app is really fastest.

This run is with all the x64 apps found in the "x64 Astropulse and beyond" thread.

Fastest is still AP6_win_x64_AVX_CPU_r2163_PGO_vc2010.exe so I will try to get that running on my system.

I give up.  I lack the knowledge to build an app_info file from scratch or even using an existing one as a template.  I get things the way I think they should be and when I start Boinc files dissapear from the working directory that existed prior to starting Boinc.  Then Boinc complains that the files are missing.  I don't get it.

Now I went back and installed Lunatics version 0.41 as I had before.  Wish I could get an x64 app running on my machine.
