My laptop committed suicide and is getting refurbished now. i'll be
getting it back as bare metal, no OS. i'd been using Ubuntu linux
on it but may change. What OS would likely be best at running
SETI on it ?
AuthenticAMD
AMD Turion(tm) 64 Mobile Technology ML-34 [Family 15 Model 36 Stepping 2]
(1 processors) 2 gigs RAM

Seti on a recently suicided laptop? Not, if you don't want it to do that again. Do you hate it so much? No matter the OS, laptops are not suited for this.

Should be OK, if you set it up carefully and look after the airflow properly. My 420M has been running continuously for over 18 months now, and will reach 5 million BOINC credits (cross-project) in about 10 days' time.
(mind you, I can hear that the main fan bearing is getting rattly...)

I run SETI on netbook's APU - fine so far running 2 CPU + GPU task !
Also, 2 notebooks equipped with CPU SETI for more than 2 years already - no probs.

That particular laptop and it's twin have been running SETI
for the last couple of years now. Generally 24/7 with a
chill mat type fan underneath them to increase airflow.
Any thoughts on what OS ?
